As a community loving person, Jam has lived and worked in Chatswood since 2016 after moving with his family from Whitehorse Council in Victoria. Jam fell in love the moment he stepped foot in the city. Willoughby Council gives the feeling of a modern business hub blended with a lovely community. The inclusive and multicultural nature of the city is what drew Jam to call it home.
As a proud Neighbourhood Watch volunteer for 6 years in Victoria, Jam joined Neighbourhood Watch here in Willoughby, spreading awareness of security and safety to all our residents. Volunteering in the community helps people to connect with one another.
In 2019, Jam was appointed by the Governor of New South Wales as a Justice of the Peace (JP) and have volunteered his time during weekends to support local community members with their needs. This included responsibilities such as witnessing affidavits, certificates, and statutory declarations.
Education and Professional Experience
Jam completed his Bachelor of Commerce at Macquarie University, majoring in finance and accounting. Jam works as a local Business Banker in Chatswood, supporting small businesses with their everyday transactional needs. Through his work, Jam has helped more than 50 local business owners to achieve their goals. He has also helped them through difficult periods in their journey to having a successful and financially-sound business.
Jam's reputation of financial control measures also aligns with his experience as a Committee Chairperson within a stratum building of 156 residential units and 9 commercial shops. Having strong relationships with different stakeholders has given Jam the opportunity to support his building's spending within the budget every year and eliminated budget overuse in his first four years of office. Jam has helped them achieve 15% growth every year, balancing growth in strata reserve funds.
Family and Business
Growing up in a family of small business owners within the fabric industry, Jam has seen the daily struggles that business owners have gone throughout his entire life.
Looking back on this last year and a half and the impacts of the pandemic, it breaks Jam's heart to have seen community members and local businesses suffer. With a background of financial adequacy, personal integrity, and business experience, Jam hopes to transform his knowledge and skills to become a community advocate that helps our businesses and community thrive.
